regional travel award guidelines

The following guidelines are for the SCMR Regional Travel Awards

The Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR) announces that applications will be accepted for Regional Travel Awards for students, trainees, technologists and young professionals to attend the 2017 SCMR 20th Annual Scientific Sessions to be held February 1-4, 2017 in Washington, DC at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center.  The awards are offered to defray travel and lodging costs associated with attendance at this important CMR meeting. The recipients of the travel awards will be selected by members of SCMR’s Education Committee. Special consideration will be given to underrepresented minorities and women candidates in an effort to enhance the diversity of the SCMR and the field of CMR. As of the application deadline October 12, 2016, candidates must hold membership in SCMR (associate, trainee, technologist or full) valid through the end of 2017, the year of the meeting, and may submit only one application in any one year.  Previous SCMR scholarship awardees may not apply again for a scholarship.

The purpose of the award is to encourage students, trainees, technologists and young professionals to attend the Annual Scientific Sessions and become active in SCMR. The travel awards are funded by SCMR as follows:
  • A total of up to $20,000 USD in scholarships will be awarded.
  • The number and dollar amount of awards will vary from region to region, depending on the number and quality of applications, and the estimated cost of travel from the region to the meeting.
  • Free registration to the 2017 Annual Scientific Sessions and pre-conference courses is included.
  • The travel awards will be presented at the Awards Ceremony in Washington, DC.  Winners must attend the 2017 meeting to receive the award.

Individuals selected must meet the following criteria:
  • At the time of application, SCMR Membership (associate, trainee, technologist or full) must be valid through the end of 2017.
  • Except for applicants for the Technologist Scholarship, all applicants must be the first author of an abstract accepted as an oral or poster presentation at the 2017 SCMR Scientific Sessions. Applicants for the Technologist Scholarship need only be a co-author, and not necessarily the first author of the qualifying accepted abstract.
  • Must meet one of the following criteria:
    • be in training or less than 10 years after MD or
    • be less than 5 years after PhD or
    • be MR technologists and radiographers who spend at least 50% of their time on CMR.
  • For those with both MD and PhD degrees, the candidate must be within the time frame specified for the first degree awarded.
